As a chiropractor for 43 years, I have seen many successes with chiropractic. Most people come for back or neck pain which chiropractic has had good success with. But there are many other conditions that chiropractic can help with as well as overall body health.

There is promising research to indicate that there are complex health benefits from chiropractic adjustments which are not limited to neuromusculoskeletal (the nerves and muscles) outcomes. They focused on the improvement of physical indicators of well-being and adaptability such as blood pressure, heart rate variability and sleep.

For example here is a study that reviewed 12 weeks of chiropractic care that found the care modulated the biomarkers linked to neuroplasticity.

Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life, allowing it to adapt to experiences, learn, and recover from injury. It works through processes like synaptogenesis (forming new synapses).A synapse is a tiny gap between nerve cells. At a synapse, signals travel across a tiny gap using neurotransmitters to pass the message to the next cell or neuron. A neuron is a nerve cell that transmits information to other nerve cells.

Neuroplasticity is also neurogenesis (creating new neurons in certain areas), and strengthening or weakening connections based on use.

The chiropractic adjustments in this study also modulated inflammation and stress. In other words, they helped decrease inflammation and reduce the effects of stress on the body.

Another study indicated that many health benefits of chiropractic care are due to altered brain activity due to neuroplasticity.

A study on maintenance care addressed regular chiropractic care and utilized all the existing evidence when selecting study subjects and found that Maintenance Care patients experienced fewer days with low back pain compared to patients invited to contact their chiropractor “when needed”. Maintenance care is getting treatments after the initial pain is gone and for preventive/health purposes continuing to get regular adjustments.

Lastly, another study of many other studies concluded: Chiropractic evaluation and treatment during pregnancy may be considered a safe and effective means of treating common musculoskeletal symptoms that affect pregnant patients.

I have many anecdotes of improvements of patients under care. Headaches, migraines, digestive problems, reproductive problems, menstrual difficulties, etc. have all responded to chiropractic care.

I could never promise a cure or result but most people do respond at some level to adjustments.
